Frustrated Teacher Finds New Fulfillment

She used eight DESIGN YOUR LIFE questions to move her toward her “someday” dreams!

*******************************************************************

As a teacher, I had spent twenty years dedicated to children and the education arena.  I was one of those who would spend many extra hours going beyond contract just like many dedicated teachers.

One day a friend asked me if I ever considered whether anyone appreciated all the extras that I did.  Did I ever consider that if I died tomorrow, the school district would replace me by noon but it would be my family that would be devastated forever.  I considered this thought but dismissed it.

I taught at a school with high poverty and transient population.  My colleague team loved this challenge and we enthusiastically embraced school reform for improving our skills and style to fit the learning styles and needs of this population of children.  Everyday my heart was inspired to come to work .

One day  I was ask to come to the Human Resource office and I was told that the district would be moving me to another school.  I admired the staff members of the other school but the district office didn’t even acknowledge that one’s heart and soul gets wrapped around a visionary goal and after working so hard as a team to achieve the success, it felt like they were kicking me off the team.

My heart was like a balloon that had been popped.

It was at that moment I realized my friend was right.  It didn’t matter how motivated and inspired a teacher is….we were just an employee.  Now I understood why many teachers simply “put in their contract hours” and go home.

I resigned that day.  I was leaving a job I passionately loved.  My motivation was NOT wrapped in a paycheck….it was wrapped around fulfillment of making a difference.

IT WAS TIME TO DESIGN MY LIFE that still brought fulfillment but would build a vision for my own family .

CAN YOU RELATE TO MY “DOWNSIZING” SITUATION?

ARE YOU BUILDING SOMEONE ELSE’S VISION INSTEAD OF YOUR OWN?

It was a risk leaving my career.  I would not recommend that but rather I encourage people to KEEP THEIR DAY JOB while starting  to build a business for their own security. We cannot foresee the future as any employee.  It is PRUDENT to build a business.

Where does one start?  For me, it started with eight DESIGN YOUR LIFE QUESTIONS.

Happy Ending:  My husband and I now have a six figure income business that matches our core values and has resulted in FULFILLMENT.  It went beyond what I could wrap my vision around.  I encourage you, though….even building an additional income of $200 per month is equivalent to the investment income of having $48,000 in an investment earning at 5% interest!  Many individuals are experiencing the value of this simple achievable portfolio option.

But who knows where it can go?

Fulfillment of our “someday” dreams all started  with a vision created with eight DESIGNING YOUR LIFE QUESTIONS.

“Cheers” to designing your own life too.

HERE are the 8 questions that I used to DESIGN MY LIFE and set in motion a new plan.

1. What are my someday dreams without limitations?  What are the things you keep saying, “well, someday I want to….”  Well, the moment was here for me.   I was frustrated that I was just a number on an employee list.   I was tired of living just to pay the bills.  I hadn’t considered that I had power to create more mechanisms in my own financial growth plan? I was concerned that our retirement income would not sustain our current lifestyle…especially now that I resigned.

2.  Why are these someday dreams important to me?  This is where you list your core values.  Watch for the next post. It was my core value of fulfillment and security that prompted my change.  Quite shocking what core values can motivate one to do.  :)

3.  What am I willing to do to fulfill my someday dreams?

4.  What type of business will I choose as my vehicle to fulfill my game plan? We reviewed multiple options but it is important that one matches their core values to the business choice.

5.  What actions will I do to put my vehicle business into momentum?  Work the plan.

6.  What specific knowledge or mentoring do I need? Don’t re-invent the wheel.  Books, classes, mentor, etc.

7.  What monetary goal as a part time business would be realistic to begin working toward realizing that every business takes time to build?

8.  What actions will I put on my calendar to fulfill this goal?  The number of hours that you invest “working” your business will determine your achievement level and the rate in which you achieve it .  Fast or slow momentum doesn’t matter.  Both will achieve success.  The key is consistent steady actions.
