1. Essential Oils can act as adsorbents or filters within the body. Here’s how:

    · Cell membranes are largely composed of phospholipid-barrier molecules.

    · The dual chemical nature of phospholipids filters the flow of materials into and out of the cell.

. Thus they function or act as a barrier molecules.

    · Essential oils are lipids giving them the ability to pass through the membrane without any energy expenditure (diffusion or high to low movement).

    · More importantly, essential oils are 70-80% carbon. Carbon is the best adsorbent of toxins, heavy metals, allergens and pathogenic microbes. They can function as “cleansers.”

2. Oils may also interact with cell membrane proteins stimulating communication within the cell and throughout the whole body.

    · Example: From the book Clinical Aromatherapy by Jane Buckle, she states that essential oils support because “…inhaled volatile oils diffuse into the olfactory nerve directly to the cerebrum.” Antidepressants work by making the neurotransmitter serotonin linger in the gaps between brain cells, while essential oils appear to work with the body to accelerate the serotonin system–amplifying its activity similar to turning up the volume on a radio.

cells communicating· Example: Inhalation of lavender, ylang ylang, and bergamot essential oils reduced psychological stress response as indicated by reduced serum cortisol levels. (Hwang 1123)

    · Example: Essential Oils destroy pathogens by attacking the cell membrane of the pathogen directly and thereby affecting the water uptake of the organism. Essential Oils alter the osmotic flow (all cells are 70% water)

. If the cell cannot regulate the flow of water, then the pathogen will die. Unlike medication, Essential Oils have tissue-protecting properties. (Buckle)

3. Essential oils can contain their own nutritional constituents. For example: Citrus oils are cold pressed from the rind similar to how olive oil is cold-pressed.

oranges-lemonsThe d-limonene found in the rind of both the orange and the lemon is rare in our diet. The addition of orange and lemon essential oils to the NingXia Red puree becomes very supportive of multiple body systems.

Victor Marcial-Vega, M.D. in the journal, Alternative Medicine Digest, promotes the addition of Vitamin C to the diet through ingestion of orange essential oil. Only one drop several times a day, provides more Vitamin C than tablet or pill dosages and he personally ingests 10 drops/day for his daily Vitamin C regimen.
